The Other Side of the Mountain is a war drama based on a real story of 6.25. Ilkyu, drafted from Seoul, gets injured on the front lines of Hwanghae-do. As he gets treated in a village up in the mountains, he falls in love with Seonhwa, but the two separate as Ilkyu returns to Seoul for his mother. The Other Side of the Mountain demonstrates the North Korean filmmaking skills in creating masterpieces. Large war scenes or Seoul in the 1950s are the foundation of this film’s reality and The Other Side of the Mountain does quite a good job of it. The film's theme is the sorrow of separated families, rather than focusing on history or ideology.
