Michael Palin in North Korea

Program Note

As diplomatic relations between North Korea and South Korea begin to slightly thaw after decades of hostility, comedian and world traveler Michael Palin is allowed to visit North Korea for two weeks and, to a limited extent, explore the country. Visiting major cities such as Pyongyang and Wonsan, he starts to build odd friendships with North Korean guides accompanying him. He pays attention to the most humane aspects of these ordinary people instead of focusing on the political and economic situation of North Korea. Sharing this old actor’s honest and bold perspectives, the film invites the audience to look at other aspects of North Korea.
