Zhenos lives with her sisters in the City Plaza Hotel, which is occupied and run by refugees in the centre of Athens. She is only 11 years old, but she has already seen so much devastation. With her family, she escaped the armed conflict in Afghanistan. Very far away from their home, they are in limbo, not knowing where they will live, learn the language of a strange country, fearing whether they will be evicted by the police at any moment. Everyday life in this hotel with thousands of doors. Zhenos’ dreams are filled with memories of Afghanistan turning into a nightmare.

Program Note

The City Plaza Hotel in Athens used to be a hotel but is used as refugee shelter. People fled from war-torn countries and arrived at the empty building. Zhenos, an 11-year-old girl lives with her sisters in the hotel. She can’t have the luxury of going through puberty. Outcry from her hometown makes her much more anxious. The film presents the harsh reality of refugees and the despair and anxiety of people who left their hometowns from a girl’s perspective.
