In 1949, Zula and Wiktor meet in Poland. United in music, they meet and separate in various parts of Europe including Berlin and Paris. Although the World War II had ended, an even more crucial war, the Cold War was overcasting the world, in which they must fight the era to protect their art. Cold War is a sad yet passionate romance of two lovers, and a resonating music film. On the 4:3 black screen, the facial expressions of the two main characters and various landscapes are displayed as beautifully as sorrowful. A delicate directing shines through. Pawe©© Pawlikowski won Best Director at Cannes Film Festival with this film.
