Program Note

Based on the original novel of Kim Seong-jong, the film reveals a woman’s secret during the Korean War through a detective’s investigation. Despite the long running time of 158 minutes, the prowess of the director, who is the master of action film, makes the audience fully absorbed into the story. The beauty of the film is his speedy and skillful composition of the past and the present. When it was first released in 1980 about one hour was edited due to censorship. However, it was restored in 2005 and rediscovered as a masterpiece. It is extremely hard to forget the striking ending.
